RC got us tickets for the Amon Tobin show at The Roundhouse in Camden. Not being one for live music performances, generally, it was my first time there — and I was impressed! So clean, so civilised, so round! The visuals for the Amon Tobin show were pretty cool, too. Not so cool were having my feet stepped on, being crushed between other people’s bodies, and almost passing out from the body odor of the guy in front of me who insisted on lifting up his arms repeatedly to show his enthusiasm. (The main reasons I don’t go to concerts anymore, in fact.) You know what would be good inventions? An inflatable space saver, that you can inflate to hold your place when you need to go to the loo, or just need some extra personal space. Also, a sturdy, collapsible box that can be quickly assembled for short people to stand on, so we have a chance to see the stage.
Strategised last night, complete with highlighter, printouts and pre-typed up Session Codes for the tickets I wanted (Handball? Why not?). Main strategy was to go for the sports actually taking place in the Olympic Park, as opposed to some venue in southwest London. Got up at 5:50am to apply for second-chance Olympic tickets. Got my tickets selected, hit payment stage and as predicted:

Then:

Not alone:

And across the land there was the sound of sleep-deprived, uncaffeinated zombies refreshing their screens and hitting submit again en masse. I first hit submit at 6:02 and finally got the application in at 6:33am. I also learned a new word through Twitter: “shambolic”
Can’t wait to see the Rainbow City installation at the High Line in NYC!

Read MoreI’m attending a talk/installation/performance tonight with RC. We’re a couple with a lot of similar interests, but some are far more interesting to me than to him and vice versa. Textile-based exhibition? Yeah, that would be an outing initiated by me. Tonight’s outing is geared more toward RC’s interests, involving sound, music, technology and science. I brought it to his attention, and am looking forward to checking it out, but honestly, I am somehow feeling simultaneously smarter *and* dumber just reading this description:
VARIABLE 4 -Sound Installation by the artists James Bulley and Daniel Jones
Wednesday, June 22 · 7:00pm – 11:30pm
at The Book Club on Leonard Street
£5 http://www.wegottickets.com/event/118602
Daniel Jones and James Bulley will be presenting their piece and showing audio and video excerpts, demonstrating how it works under the bonnet and introducing some of the musicians and technicians involved with the piece. Alongside this will be an informal panel discussion on Sound in Art, featuring some luminaries within the field: producer Joana Seguro (Faster Than Sound, Lumin), curator Cecilia Wee (Sound and Music, Rational Rec), writer and curator Daniela Cascella, and BAFTA award-winning sound designer Nick Ryan (The Fragmented Orchestra, Papa Sangre). The evening will open with the world’s first (?!) meteorological eight-channel DJ set featuring some of the spatialisation methods devised for the piece — controlled with a windvane and anemometer interface.
See what I mean? If you could hear my brain, it might sound like: ooh… hmm… wha… baroo? Cue headtilt. Anyway, looking forward to it! If all else fails, The Book Club has tasty chunky fries.

I’m overloaded and overstretched. Not quite overwhelmed, but definitely whelmed. So much going on in the past month or so, mostly good — my travel collections show, trip to NYC, textile work being shown in Brooklyn, launching Creative Clerkenwell at Clerkenwell Design Week, following up with people, looking ahead to London Design Festival — some stressful (having to look for a new flat).
Life maintenance has fallen to the wayside. The flat is littered with bags of stuff I ferried back from the studio during Clerkenwell Design Week, just to drop on the living room floor before collapsing in bed for my 3 hours of sleep. When you start misplacing whole pairs of shoes somewhere in the flat (I’ve got two pairs MIA. Where are you, gold platform wedge sandals and black leather Mary Janes?!) it’s a definite sign to slow down and get stuff in order!
Even my computer is showing the strain. Firefox is protesting against the obscene number of tabs that are open, and I have to restart my laptop in a moment, because it’s suddenly having trouble rendering letters in places. This is what my iCal looked like a moment ago. Quite pretty, but also a pretty accurate depiction of my brain melting…
So many ideas, but only one brain and 24 hours in a day!
